# Milner enjoying every minute at Anfield

New vice-captain James Milner says he has no regrets leaving league-leading Manchester City for Liverpool.

After arriving this summer on a free transfer, Milner has been touted as a contender for the most important signing of the new season for manager Brendan Rodgers.

Given his performances so far, including his most recent one away at Arsenal, taking the armband for the injured Jordan Henderson, the England international has reason for his enthusiasm.

“I am enjoying it very much. That is why I came here,” Milner said, [as quoted in the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/im-loving-liverpool-fc-no-9928107), reflecting on the solid start to the campaign.

After three games and seven points, just two back in the table from his former club, Milner was asked if he questions his move, to which he responded in the negative.

The midfielder explained, “I might have been watching them sitting on the bench if I had stayed at the club.

“I am delighted to have joined Liverpool and am enjoying every minute. It is a club used to winning, and every time we step onto the field the fans expect to win. That is a nice pressure to have.”

The promise of greater playing time and a belief in Rodgers plans for the club were all factors in the switch.

Looking at his current squad, he commented, “You want to be among good, experienced players and a blend of English talent and foreign players. You look down the squad list and on the bench and it is a strong balance. You need a good squad to do anything and we will definitely have that.”

Milner oozes positivity when assessing the side’s current form: “There are very promising signs. It will take time.”

On the recent draw with Arsenal, “I don’t think that is anywhere near the best we can play but again it is an improvement. Defensively we were brilliant again and you could see the fluidity in our play at times as well.

“Any time you can come away from Arsenal and be disappointed with a draw is a good night.”

When asked about Liverpool’s ambitions, the two-time title winner said: “We will see at the end of the season, won’t we? I think it is an exciting time to be at the club.

“We don’t want to put any targets on it, but the longer we get into this season and the more we play together, you will see us improve more and more.”
