# Milner eyeing Leeds return if Liverpool deal cannot be agreed

James Milner will reportedly target a return to Elland Road if he cannot agree a new deal with Liverpool.

The versatile midfielder is in the final year of his current contract with the club and [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/pl-big-earner-has-leeds-in-his-mind-amid-new-talks-with-club-over-two-year-deal-sources/), is keen on extending his deal by a further two years.

However the report suggests Liverpool may only be looking at a 12-month extension for the 33-year-old, who would also be expected to take a pay cut should he stay at Anfield.

Milner therefore is said to be open on a return to Leeds United, having previously stated a desire to end his career at Elland Road after making his professional debut for the club at 16-years-old.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Milner certainly still has a key role to play at Liverpool, and you would imagine the club are keen on extending his deal if terms can be agreed between both parties.

The 33-year-old’s versatility has been hugely important for the Reds since his move from Manchester City in 2015, and having a player of his kind is crucial for any successful side.
