# Mohamed Salah… On his way to Liverpool?

Social media went crazy on Wednesday night as the Mohamed Salah to Liverpool transfer reports had fans refreshing their Twitter feed every other second, hoping more news would break out.

The news of Salah started off as a rumour, multiple pages on Twitter and ‘Transfers rumours’ sections on Sky Sports news reporting apparent ‘interest’.

Within a few hours, rumours soon became solid interest and at about 9pm last night, various Egyptian news reporters, one apparently knowing Salah personally tweeted out in Arabic about Liverpool approaching the Roma man.

His agent following Liverpool on Twitter and posting a picture of a plane ticket to London is enough to get us excited and thinking there’s something more to it than a bit of ‘click bait’.

The reported transfer fee, somewhere between £35-£45 is what Roma would be seeking for Salah, however, there are reports claiming that the fee and personal terms are at an advanced stage between the two clubs and there’s a chance of the medical being done on Friday if talks go well.

The suggestion is that the Egyptian winger would want wages of around £100,000 a week to bump up his current £70,000 a week deal at Roma, which runs until 2019.

This is not the first time we’ve been linked with the explosive winger, during the Brendan Rodgers reign back in 2014, we were extremely close to signing him, but we valued the player only at £8,000,000 and he eventually left for £12,000,000 to Chelsea.

I understand many fans will aggrieved knowing we could have sealed the Egyptian back in 2014 for a quarter of the price, however, the three years in Rome are invaluable and have made him the player he is today. At 24, soon to be 25, he still has chance to improve.

On the pitch what will he offer?

In 31 appearances last season, Salah has returned 15 goals and 11 assists. For a winger in a competitive league nowadays £40,000,000 is what you’d expect to pay for somebody who is returning 26 goal contributions in 31 appearances.

He’s a direct player who will strike fear into Premier League defenders due to his pace, skill and enthusiasm to beat a man.

If it’s true that we have an approximate of £150,000,000 to spend, then this £40,000,000 is a great piece of business, and means Jurgen Klopp would have his two wingers for his 4-3-3 system, with £110,000,000 still remaining so we can seal on a few other areas in the squad.
