# Morata could miss Atletico Madrid’s Champions League clash with Liverpool

Alvaro Morata could miss Atletico Madrid’s Champions League first leg clash with Liverpool, according to *Cadena Cope*, via *[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/atletico-madrid/20200203/473279684537/morata-se-lesiona-a-15-dias-del-liverpool.html)*.

The striker picked up a muscle injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat away to Real Madrid – a loss that leaves Diego Simeone’s side in [sixth place](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/spanish-la-liga/table) in La Liga.

Atletico host Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on February 18th, but Morata is now a doubt.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss around two weeks of action, making his involvement in the first-leg very unlikely.

It is also [mentioned](https://sportwitness.co.uk/key-striker-doubt-ahead-liverpool-cl-clash-next-two-weeks/) that the injured Diego Costa could be back by then, however, which is vital for Simeone, considering Joao Felix is also [expected to be sidelined](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/29/joao-felix-an-injury-doubt-for-atletico-madrids-clash-with-liverpool/).

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I believe Liverpool will be given a stern test by Atletico, regardless of their potential striker shortage.

They remain expertly drilled in a defensive sense and the Reds will likely find it tough to break them down at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Failing to score an away goal would leave Jurgen Klopp’s men in a precarious position ahead of the second leg at Anfield.

That being said, the Spanish giants are struggling badly in front of goal, scoring just [22 times in as many league games](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/spanish-la-liga/table) this season.

I expect Liverpool to get through the tie, but I also don’t think it will be as one-sided as both sides’ respective seasons suggest.
