# Moreno expresses “inner anger and rage” towards Rodgers

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno has spoken out about the frustration he felt at the beginning of the season when he wasn’t part of the Reds starting line-up.

Moreno has been a mainstay in the side since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp and has performed very well but at the beginning of the season, Brendan Rodgers chose to start 18-year-old Joe Gomez at left-back ahead of The Spaniard, something which [Moreno said](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/premier-league/2015-2016/liverpool-s-alberto-moreno-reveals-rage-and-anger-after-brendan-rodgers-snub_sto4971101/story.shtml) left him feeling angry and upset.

> I perhaps felt that \[Rodgers\] didn’t have quite so much confidence in me, certainly at the start of this season. He told me I was training hard but then I didn’t feature for those first five or six games.

> He said to me that it was still early in the season and that my opportunity would come, but after the first game against Stoke City, when we kept a clean sheet, he said he wasn’t going to change anything defensively at that point.

> It never entered my head that I was going to leave. I want to stay forever. But I had this inner anger, a rage almost. I felt I was playing well, training well. He told me I was training well. But I couldn’t see why I wasn’t getting a chance.

The 23-year-old has also spoken about his new manager and how things are under him compared to the Northern Irishman.

> I think that it has been a 100% change. Everything is totally different. \[Klopp\] spoke to all the players and he told us we all started from zero. I do feel he trusts me, he spends a lot of time with me.

> The fact he has spent so much time with me, I think, shows up in good performances on the field. I just get the impression that he really feels the game.

Liverpool face a trip to Chelsea this weekend, and Moreno is almost certain to start, having been rested for the Capital One Cup win over Bournemouth on Wednesday evening.

The Reds are looking for their first league win since the arrival of Klopp, while Chelsea will be desperate to turn around their horrible run of form that has led to Jose Mourinho’s position being questioned.
