# Musker Meets Trickett-Smith

#### Liverpool’s academy has never been as heavily followed by the clubs supporters as it is today. With easy access to youth matches on the club’s television channel, frequent player interaction with the youngsters on social media sites and the involvement of academy products in Brendan Rodgers’ first team, it is of no surprise that the club’s academy is currently so popular.

#### Recently, I caught up with one of the club’s finest young talents, Daniel Trickett-Smith, to find out what life is like at the prestigious Kirkby academy, his aims for next season, and what it’s like to train with Steven Gerrard. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – How has your first season been as a Liverpool player?

**Trickett-Smith** – It’s been really good, I’ve enjoyed it and learnt a lot of new things, both on and off the pitch. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – You can see that from your improvement this season. What sort of things do you get up to in your time off?

**Trickett-Smith** – Well at the moment I’m in digs, which is alright, but I’ll just go out with a few friends, or just rest up watching TV. I also like to get home on my days off, to see my family and friends back there. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – And on the pitch, have you been up to playing at Melwood yet? What was that like?

**Trickett-Smith** – I’ve been a couple of times on international breaks. It’s been a great experience. But the last week, me and two other lads went up and everyone was there – it was a great experience to train with Gerrard and all the others. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – How motivating is it having Rodgers in charge, and him being so open to giving young guys an opportunity?

**Trickett-Smith** – He gives us the belief that there is a route into the first team and he has proved that by giving Jerome \[Sinclair\], Andre \[Wisdom\] and Raheem \[Sterling\] chances and also put Jordon Ibe on the bench vs Southampton this season. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – It’s great to see too. There is so much talent in the academy, but if you were to say one player that would make it, who would it be?

**Trickett-Smith** – I couldn’t choose. All the players at the academy are really good footballers. Everyone has a good chance. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – Good answer. Seen you play well in a few different positions this year, what would you say is your natural role?

**Trickett-Smith** – I don’t mind playing anywhere attacking. But my favourite role would be that of an attacking midfielder. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – Who is your best friend at the academy? Any special relationships with the first team players?

**Trickett-Smith** – I haven’t really got one, I get on with everyone.  And no, no one in particular in the first team, but when we go up there, they are all really good with us! \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – What would you be if you weren’t a footballer?

**Trickett-Smith** – Not sure, haven’t really thought about it before. It would have to include sport in some degree. Maybe a coach or a PE teacher. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – What’s the best changing room prank at the academy so far?

**Trickett-Smith** – Hard to choose one really, as it happens all the time. Mainly it’s just small things that the lads get up to! \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – How did you feel when you first found out Liverpool wanted to sign you?

**Trickett-Smith** – I was really excited to come here and have a look around. I was also excited to meet everyone but most of all I just couldn’t wait to play. I was just really excited. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – Can you take us through a normal day at the academy?

**Trickett-Smith** – We get in at around 9am. Have breakfast  etc. Then we have a little bit of time before we train at 10:30. Then some days we have gym after lunch at about 1:30. Tuesdays and Thursdays we have college, which we do at Rainhill High. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – And finally Dan, what are your main aims for next season?

**Trickett-Smith** – Well hopefully I will continue to play for the u18s, and try and get a game under my belt for the u21s. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]

**Musker** – Thanks very much Daniel, and all the best for next season.

**Trickett-Smith** – Thanks mate. \[divider style=”tiny”\]\[/divider\]
