# Napoli to increase Mertens release clause

Serie A side Napoli are set to increase Dries Mertens’ release clause in the coming weeks.

[According to The IB Times](https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/napoli-raise-dries-mertenss-release-clause-ward-off-liverpool-manchester-united-interest-1654541), Napoli are worried that Liverpool will take advantage of his low release clause in the summer.

Mertens’ current release clause is €28m, which would represent a real coup in the current transfer climate.

The report also claims that Manchester United are also interested in the Belgian playmaker coming into the summer.

Mertens has revealed that he will not leave Napoli until the win the Serie A title, with the club currently top of the league by one point after 20 games.

Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142m earlier this week, with Mertens possibly being eyed as a replacement for the attacking midfielder.

The report claims that Mertens could now be set to sign a new deal with Napoli, making it more difficult for Liverpool to complete a move for Mertens in the summer.
