# “No regrets” – Chilwell discusses failed move to Liverpool

It is hard to remember a time before Andy Robertson at Liverpool, considering the vast influence the Scot has enjoyed with the Reds.

He wasn’t always the club’s preferred signing at left-back, however, with Ben Chilwell a primary target in the summer of 2016.

The Englishman ended up staying put at Leicester City, however, with Robertson arriving from Hull City the following year.

Speaking to [https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/11825700/ex-liverpool-target-ben-chilwell-has-no-regrets-at-pursuing-leicester-career](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/11825700/ex-liverpool-target-ben-chilwell-has-no-regrets-at-pursuing-leicester-career)*[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/11825700/ex-liverpool-target-ben-chilwell-has-no-regrets-at-pursuing-leicester-career)* in the lead-up to Saturday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and the Foxes, Chilwell says he is happy he didn’t move at that point:

> I was 17 at the time. My agent was the one dealing with it all, talking to Liverpool and Leicester about the situation.

> At the time, I was trying to break into the U21 team at Leicester so I was just focused on getting into that and progressing into the first team here.”

> Definitely no regrets. When I look at how the last four or five years have gone, starting eight games now for the England team is something I’m very happy with.

> Leicester was the right place for me to be at the time and the older players have helped me a lot. The staff have kept me grounded. Definitely no regrets.

There is no denying Chilwell’s quality as a player and he will be a key figure for Leicester this weekend.

He is now looking like England’s first-choice left-back ahead of Euro 2020 and Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in him.

Despite this, Robertson remains the superior player, with many regarding him as the world’s best left-back.

He was superb in Wednesday’s 4-3 Champions League win over Salzburg, scoring his second goal for Liverpool.

It will be intriguing to see how both sets of full-backs fare at Anfield, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ricardo Pereira the two best in their position in the league, much like Robertson and Chilwell.
