# Opinion: Bellingham should join Liverpool over Man United this summer

Jude Bellingham should pick Liverpool over Manchester United this summer, considering the differing fortunes of the two rivals currently.

According to the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-deliver-transfer-blow-man-21557085), the Reds have joined the race to sign the highly-rated, [Steven Gerrard-compared](https://talksport.com/football/668758/jude-bellingham-steven-gerrard-birmingham-man-utd-chelsea/) Birmingham City teenager this summer.

Bellingham, who captains England’s Under-17s, has caught the eye in the Championship this season, [scoring four goals and adding two assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379868/Show/Jude-Bellingham) from midfield.

A move elsewhere looks likely, considering his vast potential, and opting for Liverpool over United makes complete sense.

There was a time when United were *the* club to join, back when they were dominating English football in the 1990s and 2000s.

With Alex Ferguson at the helm, it was wholly understandable why any youngster would want to head to Old Trafford, with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand proof of this, at a time when both could have played for anyone in Europe.

The tables have turned, pleasingly, and Liverpool are now back at the summit of the English game and [on the cusp](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) of a first league title since 1990.

Jurgen Klopp arguably has as much appeal as any manager on the planet currently, which is why the Reds continue to be linked with world-class players such as [Jadon Sancho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/28/liverpools-interest-in-jadon-sancho-confirmed/), [Timo Werner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/20/reliable-journalist-explains-why-werner-prefers-liverpool-to-bayern-munich/) and [Kylian Mbappe](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/13/liverpool-one-of-four-clubs-to-make-offer-for-mbappe/).

His ability to get the very best out of his players is unrivalled, not to mention giving [youngsters](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/02/05/liverpool-youngsters-impressed-fa-cup-win-shrewsbury/) a chance, which draws clear comparisons with Ferguson.

Sure, Bellingham certainly wouldn’t arrive at Anfield as a regular, but much like similarly exciting duo Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, there is a first-team path for them further down the line, as long as they remain focused.

Not only that, but Liverpool’s [new training base](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV3-eHOLeFw) that opens this summer makes the club even more desirable for a young player, with both the senior players and the youth team stars working alongside one another from next season onwards.

It could be argued that United might be an easier route into the first-team immediately, considering their [mixed form](https://www.manutd.com/en/matches/fixtures-results) under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They don’t have as much midfield depth as the Reds, and Bellingham could be alerted by that, being put off by the competition for places at the European champions.

Liverpool’s most bitter rivals are miles behind their old foes at the moment, however, whether it be in terms of on-pitch success, pedigree of manager or the way the club is being run behind the scenes.

Joining United may have a risk element to it, in terms of someone like Bellingham stalling in his career, whereas Liverpool are tailor-made for a youngster to thrive.

Learning from Klopp, and being surrounded by world-class talent, could only improve somebody of Bellingham’s ilk, fine-tuning his skills and moulding him into a possible future starter. Patience may be required, but could pay off handsomely.

Those days of United being the most appealing club are long gone – the fact that Liverpool have replaced them makes it all the sweeter.
