# Oxlade-Chamberlain left out of latest England squad – but is it fair?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been [left out](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/03/england-squad-abraham-tomori-alli-lingard-wan-bissaka) of the England squad for the Three Lions’ upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

The 26-year-old has struggled for playing time so far this season, as he continues his recovery from cruciate ligament damage, often being kept out of the Liverpool side by Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum.

England play Czech Republic (October 11th) and Bulgaria (October 14th) later this month, but Oxlade-Chamberlain will play no part.

Liverpool trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson are included, however.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

Although it is disappointing to see Oxlade-Chamberlain omitted, Gareth Southgate’s decision is understandable.

The England boss picks players on merit, in general, and Liverpool’s popular midfielder hasn’t done enough to justify receiving a call-up.

Once he earns more playing time and returns to the top of his game – assuming he does – Oxlade-Chamberlain will walk back into the international fold.

He became a key man for England before his injury, adding an extra dimension to the midfield.
