# Oxlade-Chamberlain urges Liverpool to copy Messi and Ronaldo

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has urged Liverpool to take a leaf out of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s book, in terms of their search for perfection.

The Reds have enjoyed a stunning 2019/20 season to date, sitting [13 points clear at the top of the Premier League](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table), with two games in hand.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to build a dynasty at Anfield, however, rather than just winning one league title.

Speaking to [LiverpoolFC.com](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/383611-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-liverpool-trophies-success), Oxlade-Chamberlain picked out Messi and Ronaldo as examples to follow, with the Reds never accepting anything less than perfection:

> The way you can explain something like that is if you look at Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, the bar they have set for years and years and years, they might go one season or calendar year scoring 70 goals \[and\] if they hit 45 the next year they are probably not satisfied and the people around are probably not satisfied any more.

> Once you have proven to yourself and externally what you can achieve and the levels you can hit, that’s when the difference is.

> When you consistently hit them year after year, or as close to, is when you will be satisfied with yourself and others will be satisfied.

> That’s why the likes of those two players I just mentioned go down as the greatest – because they have been able to keep that up for year on year on year, for 10 or 15 years. That’s nothing to think lightly of, it’s unbelievably hard.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I think Oxlade-Chamberlain’s comments perfectly sum up the mindset of this Liverpool squad.

Klopp has instilled a winning mentality in his players that means they are never beaten, leading to [64 points from a possible 66](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) this season.

This group want to go on to become one of the greatest club sides of all time, rather than a one or two-season wonder.

I believe they have the ability to do just that, especially if they are copying the mindset of Messi and Ronaldo – the two best players in history, in my opinion.
