# Pearce reveals trio of potential replacements for Klopp

James Pearce has named three potential replacements for Jurgen Klopp, once the German eventually leaves Liverpool.

Klopp has done a sensational job at Anfield, winning the Champions League and sitting on the verge guiding the Reds to Premier League glory, too.

The 52-year-old recently [committed his future until 2024](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/377870-liverpool-fc-statement-jurgen-klopp-extends-contract-to-2024), but there is always talk surrounding who could eventually replace him further down the line.

Speaking in a Q&A with [The Athletic](https://theathletic.co.uk/1679311/2020/03/17/james-pearce-mailbag-liverpool-klopp-gerrard-werner/) on Tuesday, Pearce named Steven Gerrard, Pep Lijnders and Julian Nagelsmann as possible successors to Klopp.

> Pep Lijnders is massively respected by the owners and is a popular figure throughout the club. He would certainly be part of the conversation when it comes to successors.
>
> If RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann’s managerial career remains on an upward curve at that time, he’s bound to be of interest too. So much can change in the space of four years.
>
> I still think Steven Gerrard is destined to manage Liverpool. I know their domestic form hasn’t been great recently but in general, he’s done a great job at Rangers.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I think it is impossible to know who is best equipped to replace Klopp at this moment, but when the moment comes to make that decision, Liverpool must be spot on.

The hope is that the German will have built a dynasty at Anfield by the time he leaves, and a new manager coming in and undoing his hard work could be devastating.

Gerrard appears to be the obvious choice for nostalgic reasons, but he must only get the job if he is good enough. While he has done well at Rangers, it is clear that he is still [learning](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/liverpool/news/steven-gerrard-admits-to-learning-on-the-job-at-rangers_385539.html) – with Celtic [pulling away](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/12/celtic-beat-hearts-and-go-10-points-clear-as-rangers-lose-at-kilmarnock) with the league title in Scotland this season following the Gers’ poor form.

Lijnders looks an [excellent coach](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/extraordinary-role-pep-lijnders-revealed-16098141) but is still unproven in management, whereas Nagelsmann is excelling at RB Leipzig, and is [arguably](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8079969/Meet-Julian-Nagelsmann-worlds-hottest-young-manager.html) the strongest current candidate, given how highly he is rated in the game.
