# Priceless Firmino should not feel threatened by potential Werner signing

Roberto Firmino remains as important to Liverpool’s cause as ever, despite the potential summer signing of Timo Werner.

The RB Leipzig continues to be [strongly linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/21/reliable-journalist-tips-werner-to-make-liverpool-move/) with a move to the Reds – something that could strengthen their squad hugely if it happens.

While Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s impact out wide will always be lauded, both from Liverpool fans and those outside of Anfield, Firmino’s influence is a little less noticeable.

The possible arrival of Werner could easily see some suggest that the German could take Firmino’s spot down the middle, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Brazilian is simply too important to this Reds team to be replaced, with Werner adding depth and options for Jurgen Klopp, rather than being a direct replacement for one of the front-three.

In truth, this hasn’t been Firmino’s greatest season – a year that has seen Liverpool smash records and lead the way by 25 points, prior to the season being postponed for the time being.

His first goal at Anfield only came last week in the Champions League [defeat to Atletico Madrid](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51800660), and he hasn’t always been consistently excellent, like several of his teammates.

Firmino is not a player who should be judged on goals, assist and headline-making moments, however. He is much more than that.

The 28-year-old is the man who holds Liverpool’s attack together, getting the very best out of Salah and Mane. His ability to drop deep opens up space in behind the defenders for the African pair to run on to, and they also benefit from his creativity and all-round selflessness.

Speaking of which, Firmino’s work-rate for the good of the team is arguably unrivalled in strikers across Europe, with the former Hoffenheim man almost acting as a midfielder at times, pressing relentlessly and winning the ball back.

To sum up Firmino’s importance, his performances in any given match have every chance of defining Liverpool’s, too.

If he is at the top of his game, the Reds are a joy to watch, but if he is off the pace, everything falls apart around him.

Thankfully, the good days easily outweigh the bad ones, which is precisely why Firmino remains priceless to Klopp.

While Salah and Mane are undoubtedly more devastating, I believe Liverpool could fill the void they would leave more than Firmino. That’s how good he is.

I hope to see Werner added to Liverpool’s attack this summer, but I would be very surprised if that meant Firmino’s squad role changed in the slightest.
