# Pundit urges Liverpool to make a move for ‘influential’ Doucoure’

Abdoulaye Doucoure could be a star in Liverpool’s midfield, according to former England and Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

Doucoure shone for Watford against the Reds on Saturday evening, as the Hornets won 3-0 at Vicarage Road.

Speaking to [Premier League Productions](https://twitter.com/plproductionstv), with quotes provided by the [Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-urged-sign-watford-star-21606839), Hargreaves talked the Frenchman up as a player, tipping him to shine for Liverpool:

> He’s one of the most influential players in the Premier League who doesn’t play in the big six.

> He’s one of those players who can give a team so much, he used to play a lot deeper but now he’s in the box a lot more.
>
> He’s got goals, he’s got assists he’s so athletic. He’s got that frame of Paul Pogba, he’s got a good touch and he can finish.
>
> This guy could play in Liverpool’s midfield that’s how good he is.

I thought Doucoure was outstanding against the Reds, bossing the likes of Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum throughout.

Hargreaves is right in his assessment that the 27-year-old could excel at Anfield, possessing the attributes to succeed under Jurgen Klopp.

Although his [79.4 per cent pass completion rate](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/116317/Show/Abdoulaye-Doucour%C3%A9) doesn’t necessarily catch the eye – Gini Wijnaldum’s is [90.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum) in the Premier League this season, as a comparison – it has to be remembered that he is playing for a team fighting against relegation.

I believe his ability to cover ground could make him an influential presence, and he averages [two tackles and 1.1 key passes per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/116317/Show/Abdoulaye-Doucour%C3%A9), showing his quality at both ends of the pitch. Wijnaldum is only averaging 1.0 and 0.3 respectively.

I wouldn’t expect Klopp to make a move for Doucoure, however, mainly due to him being 27 already. The German is also well-stocked in box-to-box midfield positions, with money [needing](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-robertson-left-back-transfers-17504521) to be spent elsewhere, such as on a backup left-back and an additional forward.
