# Pundit urges West Ham to make a bid for Clyne

West Ham should make a move for Nathaniel Clyne, according to former right-back Danny Mills.

Clyne hasn’t played at all for Liverpool this season, after suffering [cruciate ligament damage](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-fc-news-nathaniel-clyne-injury-update-latest-preseason-a9019511.html) during pre-season.

His last Reds appearance came at home to Arsenal on [December 29th, 2018](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46656883), coming on as a substitute in a 5-1 win.

Speaking to *[Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-danny-mills-believes-west-ham-could-benefit-greatly-from-reported-pursuit-of-28y-o/)*, Mills talked up the idea of West Ham signing Clyne, despite his current absence through injury:

> I think he’s a very good player, a very good defender and he’s been unfortunate.

> And obviously the emergence of Alexander-Arnold has clearly hampered his progress but I think he’s a good player.

> Somebody, once he gets himself a 100% fit, will benefit greatly from the player that he is.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I believe Clyne has played his last game for Liverpool, with an exit surely, in our view, on the cards this year.

A steady performer since [joining](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33344772) from Southampton in 2015, we feel as if the Reds have moved up a gear beyond his top-level now.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has matured into the world’s best right-back without Clyne around, in my opinion, and he doesn’t possess the attacking quality to remain at the club.

At 28, we feel as if the Englishman can still offer plenty to a middle-ranked Premier League side, however, assuming he makes a full recovery.

I think he is one of England’s most defensively-astute full-backs of the last decade and he would provide good competition for the ageing Pablo Zabaleta at West Ham.
