# How did the Reds perform on international duty?

There were mixed fortunes for Liverpool players in the first round of international fixtures, but thankfully no injury concerns. Here we take a look at the how the Reds stars performed.

**Philippe Coutinho** carried his superb domestic form into Brazil’s meeting with rivals Argentina on Thursday night, opening the scoring for the home side with a vintage curling effort from the edge of box after evading the opposition defenders.

**Roberto Firmino** also featured, introduced with eight minutes remaining in a victory which saw Brazil climb to top spot in the South American World Cup qualifying group.

**Daniel Sturridge**, **Adam Lallana** and **Jordan Henderson** all started for England on Friday night in their hotly-anticipated clash with Scotland.

Sturridge, still without a league goal this term, headed home the opener after 24 minutes before Lallana did the same from Danny Rose’s delivery early in the second half.

Whilst Henderson was not among the goals, he will have the honour of skippering the Three Lions in Tuesday’s friendly against Spain at Wembley.

**Nathaniel Clyne** was forced to watch on from the bench against the Scots as his battle with Kyle Walker for the right back spot continues.

**Sadio Mane****‘s** Senegal, however, fell to a 2-1 defeat away to South Africa on Saturday. Mane has been in fine form for Jurgen Klopp’s men this season, and started in a central role for his national team, at the heart of much of their attacking play as he played the full 90 minutes.

Mane will be on African Cup of Nations duty in January, and his absence may well force Jurgen Klopp to dip into the transfer market.

It was a night to forget for **Ragnar Klavan** as his Estonia side fell to a humiliating 8-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium.

Klavan also scored an own goal as the Belgians ran riot, and will not be in international action again until March when Estonia face Cyprus.

**Simon Mignolet** and **Divock Origi** watched on from the sidelines, as they have throughout the campaign with first team opportunities limited.

**Georginio Wijnaldum** fared better as the Netherlands beat Luxembourg 3-1, a result which leaves the Dutch three points behind group leaders France as they look to recover from missing out Euro 2016.

Coutinho and Firmino are both likely to feature when Brazil travel to Peru on Wednesday, while Clyne, Henderson, Lallana and Sturridge could be involved in England’s aforementioned friendly against Spain.

Origi, Mignolet, Wijnaldum, Mane and Klavan will all return to their club to begin preparations for Saturday’s visit to Southampton.
