# Remy admits he was meant to join Liverpool – would he have excelled?

There have been a number of footballers who almost joined Liverpool in the past, from Michael Laudrup to Lee Bowyer.

Another player who nearly headed to Anfield was Loic Remy, who was a primary target under Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2014.

Speaking to the [https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/lille-vs-chelsea-loic-remy-interview-champions-league-jose-mourinho-ucl-a9129036.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/lille-vs-chelsea-loic-remy-interview-champions-league-jose-mourinho-ucl-a9129036.html)*[Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/lille-vs-chelsea-loic-remy-interview-champions-league-jose-mourinho-ucl-a9129036.html)*, the Frenchman explained his failed move and why it was no bad thing, in hindsight:

> I was supposed to sign for Liverpool. I went for the medical in Boston, then apparently I failed the medical.

> For me, everything happens for a reason, which means at the end of the day, Chelsea. We had a fantastic season.

> This year Liverpool had been in trouble, it was not the Liverpool of the previous season.

Rodgers’ spell as Liverpool manager peaked after the memorable 2013/14 season, with the summer that followed proving to be a disaster.

Luis Suarez departed to Barcelona, while the likes of Lazar Markovic, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert were dreadful signings.

Remy would, therefore, have been a better acquisition, although he wouldn’t have set the world alight at Liverpool.

He had a modest time of things at Chelsea, who he joined instead, although his quality as a squad player would still undoubtedly have helped matters.
