# Rodgers stands by his management style

[The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/sep/27/liverpool-aston-villa-premier-league-match-report?CMP=share_btn_tw) are reporting today that Brendan Rodgers is still confident of his management of Liverpool, despite the increasing speculation over his future as the Reds’ boss.

Rodgers referenced how he almost won the league with Liverpool just over a year ago and how he won Manager of the Year in the 2013-14 season in which they were runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League.

He also said that he is better than he was back then and that he has improved as a manager and he is still the man to lead Liverpool to success:

> I am the same guy who nearly won us the league, but better.

His confidence in his own ability is clear for all to see, and even though Liverpool have only won one of their last seven games and scored just 16 goals in 16 league games, Rodgers feels he has so much more to offer Liverpool as manager:

> I think I have shown in the early stages of my management – without being arrogant – that with a talented group of players I can compete at the top end of the league. I know how to manage top players. If you give me the tools, I’ll do the work.

His comments are potentially hinting at the fact that losing key players such as Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez has hindered his progress as Liverpool manager and that injuries to key players like Daniel Sturridge have also stopped Liverpool from achieving success.

Sturridge returned from his long-term injury problems with a bang, scoring two goals in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend and Rodgers will be hoping that he can stay injury free and fire Liverpool back to the top.

The goals from Sturridge gave fans a look back at happier times, which Rodgers referred to:

> There are very short memories in football. The team was eighth when I got here. We built a team to excite people throughout European football, that should have won the league.
>
> All the good work gets forgotten. That’s how it works. It seems the focus has not been on what’s gone on and what we’ve been missing, but more about getting me out of the club. That’s sad.
>
> There has been a frenzy, there is no doubt about that, to get me out of here. Whether that’s a Liverpool hysteria or big-club hysteria, I am not so sure.
