# Sakho under investigation after failed doping test

UEFA are investigating a possible anti-doping violation by Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho, [the club have confirmed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/218080-liverpool-fc-club-statement).

A report in [RMC Sport](https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/football/sakho-suspendu-provisoirement-par-liverpool-969150.html) claims that Sakho has been using a fat burner, and that he will not be selected for the Reds pending further investigations.

This comes as a bitter blow to Liverpool, who have a huge month ahead of them as they look to win the Europa League and push for a place in the top four of the Premier League.

Sakho, whose form and fitness has been up and down this term, has been in terrific form of late, scoring in the 4-3 win over Borussia Dortmund at Anfield and the Merseyside derby in midweek.

Jurgen Klopp has back-up in the form of Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Kolo Toure, who in 2011 was banned for using a similar substance while at Manchester City.

Sakho’s place in France’s Euro 2016 squad is now very much in doubt.
