# Shaqiri ruled out until after the November international break

Xherdan Shaqiri has been ruled out until after the November international break, as he continues to struggle with a calf injury.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played for the Reds since a late cameo away to Napoli on September 17th.

There had been some hope that Shaqiri was nearing a return, but he will remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Jurgen Klopp’s assistant Pepijn Lijnders [confirmed](https://twitter.com/AnythingLFC_/status/1189174890764652544?s=20) as much on Tuesday, as he took charge of press conference duties ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup fourth round clash with Arsenal at Anfield.

In terms of being a big loss, Shaqiri’s absence is not a major blow for the Reds, because he had been a peripheral figure anyway.

He is still a handy squad player to have around, however, and his quality will hpoefully come in handy as the season progresses.

After such a promising start to his Liverpool career, Shaqiri has gone backwards, but will hopefully go up a gear once he returns from injury.
