# Statistic claims Liverpool are benefiting most from goalkeeping errors – but is it luck?

Liverpool’s were beneficiaries of a goalkeeping howler last Saturday, with Dean Henderson’s error earning the Reds a 1-0 win away to Sheffield United.

It was a moment that sent rival supporters into meltdown, with some claiming Liverpool are continually benefiting from mistakes by the opposition.

There seems to be some truth in that, with the *[Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpools-helping-hand-confirmed-top-20380277)* revealing that the Reds have seen eight Premier League goals come from goalkeeping errors since the start of last season – more than any other side.

Arsenal and Everton are joint-second with five, meaning champions Manchester City are not in the top three.

It is an interesting statistic, and while there has to be an element of fortune behind it, there is so much more to it than meets the eye.

A big part of the reason for Liverpool’s ‘luck’ is because of their dominance in matches and the pressure they build.

It’s no coincidence that many of the great sides score so many late goals, or find the net via mistakes from opponents, because they eventually wear down those they are up against.

It would be wrong to ignore the fact that Liverpool have been helped along by some goalkeeping ineptitude, but there’s a reason why it didn’t used to happen when they were an inferior team.
