# These LFC fans react as Van Dijk is voted UEFA Men’s Player of the Year

Virgil van Dijk has been named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year, following a magnificent year at Liverpool.

The 28-year-old has blossomed into the world’s leading centre-back, producing immaculate performances as the Reds won the Champions League and got 97 points in the Premier League last season.

Van Dijk beat off competition from a couple of fairly well-known players: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo!

That sums up how he has been in a Liverpool shirt and he is the strong favourite to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or later this year.

Reds supporters are delighted with the news, taking to Twitter to congratulate Van Dijk:

### Read Liverpool Verdict

If you are were giving an award to the out-and-out best footballer each year, Messi would win it every time,

But because of what Van Dijk has achieved in the last 12 months, it’s only right that he won it.

He is arguably the most influential player in the Premier League and the thought of him getting injured is one that would keep Liverpool fans up at night.

Van Dijk may only have been at Anfield for 19 months, but he is already both a legend and one of the Reds’ greatest centre-backs of all time.
