# Van Dijk is worth €300m, claims Van der Vaart – he is far superior to Maguire

Virgil van Dijk put in another dominant performance for Liverpool on Sunday, as the Reds drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Such is the Dutchman’s brilliance, you simply expect immaculate displays every week, with good outings often taken for granted.

While Harry Maguire has supposedly been signed by United as some sort of alternative to Van Dijk, there is a huge gulf in class between the pair.

[Speaking](https://twitter.com/TheEuropeanLad/status/1185962467098333184?s=20) to Dutch television, he went as far as to say that Van Dijk is worth more than three times Maguire’s current value:

> When I go to see an amateur club on Sunday, I can find 3 players who can play like him.

> I mean that. It might be silly to say it but he won’t hear it anyway. If we are talking about a €90m signing here then Van Dijk is worth €300m.

Van der Vaart is spot on in his assessment, with Van Dijk a far superior centre-back than the overrated, overpriced Maguire.

The United man is a good defender, without question, but is not elite in his position and likely never will be.

Van Dijk, on the flip side, is surely the world’s leading centre-back currently and he could win the prestigious Ballon d’Or later this year.

United fans can over-hype Maguire all they like, but he won’t have anywhere near the level of influence Van Dijk has had on his team.
