# Video: Liverpool’s 1970s side named the best-ever British team

Liverpool continued their unstoppable march to Premier League glory on Monday night, seeing off West Ham 3-2 at Anfield.

It was far from a vintage performance by the Reds, but they overcame a deficit and displayed their winning mentality yet again.

This current Liverpool team is already being spoken of as [arguably](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-greatest-premier-league-team-16923468) the best in the club’s history, but there are some top teams to contend with.

The Merseysiders dominated English football in the 1970s and 1980s, achieving great success under the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Sir Kenny Dalglish.

After Monday’s game, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville counted down the top-12 sides in English football history, judging teams over a three-year period and giving them points for winning certain trophies.

Jurgen Klopp’s current outfit weren’t yet included – they could well be soon – but two other Reds sides featured prominently.

Joe Fagan’s side of the mid 1980s placed high, but Paisley’s team of the late 1970s took home first prize, pipping Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea representatives in the process:

Should Klopp’s men win the title this season, and potentially go on to win back-to-back Champions League crowns, too, it could be argued that they are every bit as good.

Doing it for a sustained three-year period is key – hopefully they will be champions next year as well.
