# West Ham leading the race to sign Liverpool target Berge

West Ham are leading the race to sign Genk star Sander Berge, according to [https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2866173-br-football-ranks-surprise-transfer-decisions-you-need-to-know-about-for-2020](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2866173-br-football-ranks-surprise-transfer-decisions-you-need-to-know-about-for-2020)*[Bleacher Report](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2866173-br-football-ranks-surprise-transfer-decisions-you-need-to-know-about-for-2020)*.

The 21-year-old is a midfielder with huge potential, impressing for the Belgian side this season.

Berge came up against Liverpool twice in the Champions League group stage, catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye.

The Reds and Napoli have generally been seen as the front-runners to sign Berge, but West Ham have emerged as the surprise favourites,

The Hammers are described as being ‘at the head of the queue’ to acquire his signature, although it isn’t specified if a January or summer exit is on the cards at Genk.

With all due respect to West Ham, it does seem surprising that they are the favourites to sign Berge.

The east London club are struggling in the Premier League this season and the youngster is good enough to play for a superior team.

A lack of regular football at Liverpool could potentially work against the Reds, however, with so midfield options already at Klopp’s disposal.
