# Why Werner represents the better immediate option than Sancho

Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho could both be superb signings by Liverpool this summer, but it is the former who represents the better immediate option.

In [Werner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/03/16/liverpool-handed-major-boost-in-quest-to-sign-werner/) and [Sancho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/28/liverpools-interest-in-jadon-sancho-confirmed/), the Reds have two players endlessly linked with moves to Merseyside in recent months. The duo have been two of the Bundesliga’s shining lights this season, scoring and assisting for fun.

Werner has [27 goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/130903/Show/Timo-Werner) to his name in all competitions, while Sancho has [chipped in with 17](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/346300/Show/Jadon-Sancho) of his own, as well as the same number of assists.

At 24, the RB Leipzig superstar is already an extremely polished footballer with years at the top level under his belt.

Despite still being young, his all-round game is strong, helped by becoming the [youngest player in Bundesliga history](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/timo-werner-records-highlights-200-games-with-rb-leipzig-vfb-stuttgart-germany-8181) to make 100, 150 and 200 appearances. There should be no bedding-in process with him.

At a time when Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino need a consistently top class teammate in attack – someone who can be relied upon in a similar manner to them – Werner ticks all the boxes.

With Salah and Mane on Africa Cup of Nations duty next [January](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51119002), that issue becomes even greater, with the pair set to leave an enormous void at the club.

Sancho is a special talent who might have a higher ceiling than Werner in the long-term, but for all his current impact, he remains a work in progress.

The England international is still yet to celebrate his 20th birthday and he could need more time to adjust at a huge club than Werner. There is more of an immaturity to his game compared to the German, so grasping Klopp’s complex ideas may not come as naturally to him.

While I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at Sancho joining Liverpool, it is easy to see him not hitting the ground running and potentially not settling for a year or so. It was [reported](https://theathletic.com/1679311/2020/03/17/james-pearce-mailbag-liverpool-klopp-gerrard-werner/?source=shared-article) that the English winger could cost as much as £120m, while Werner is available for less than half that, due to his [release clause](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7999367/Liverpool-APRIL-activate-Timo-Werners-51m-release-clause.html).

Werner feels primed to excel at Anfield straight away, joining at the same age Mane did back in 2016, and almost the same as Salah. If push comes to shove and Liverpool have to sign one of the two, the German should be their primary choice.
