# Will Liverpool break Manchester City’s points record?

The few weeks prior to the indefinite suspension of football left Liverpool with more than a few wounds to tend to.

Losing became something of an alien concept to the runaway Premier League leaders, but defeats by Watford, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid saw Jurgen Klopp’s side bow out of the FA Cup and the Champions League and bid farewell to their dreams of an unbeaten league season.

Despite the quickfire flurry of disappointments, Reds fans need not be too disheartened; this season – once it reaches its conclusion – will go down as a wildly successful one for the red half of Merseyside, who are poised to win their inaugural Premier League title and scoop their first top-flight trophy for the first time in 30 seasons.

Not only that, Klopp’s men could also beat Manchester City’s record Premier League points tally (100) – a feat many thought unimaginable when it was set just two seasons ago. For those who like to make predictions on games, a [William Hill bonus code](https://betenemy.com/en/william-hill-bonus-code/) could come in handy if they want to have a guess if Liverpool can win enough games to break the record.

With 82 points accrued, 27 left to play for, many on Merseyside will expect the Reds to eclipse City’s centurions once the league is resumed; not least because, virus aside, there will be no other distractions to contend with.

Hopes of retaining the Champions League were dashed by Atletico, whose two wins over Liverpool sandwiched their FA Cup dismissal by Chelsea.

With European glory and a domestic double off the cards, focus will be placed solely and intently on wrapping up the league title and finishing the season on the strongest possible terms – the extended break caused by the suspension will no doubt serve to heighten Klopp et al’s desire to return to the all-conquering, overwhelming form that saw them establish a 25-point lead over last year’s champions.

Furthermore, the team which only dropped five points prior to the league’s postponement can afford to concede another eight in their nine remaining matches.

Even if Pep Guardiola’s men managed to rouse themselves to victory when the teams eventually face off at The Etihad Stadium, the Reds still have ample opportunity to better their extraordinary record: seven of their remaining nine matches are against teams placed 10th or lower.

Every club will harbour concerns over how their respective players will fare once the suspension is lifted.

Finding fitness and form will perhaps never be more important to achieve and difficult to capture, but teams so often referred to as well-oiled machines do not earn such a description without undergoing the finest and most meticulous preparation – with Klopp in charge, the Anfield faithful need not worry about their superstars being undercooked.

With the Premier League title tantalisingly close to being theirs, everybody associated with Liverpool will be chomping at the bit to confirm their status as champions, desperate to sweep aside all before them in the manner that became second nature just a few months ago.

Judging on their form from the past year, and the realistic prospect of a 100+ point campaign, you’d be wise not to bet against them going one better than City’s centurions, and then some.
