# Academy review: Fulham and Brighton

The u21s were in action against Fulham FC and there was a surprise addition in the Liverpool team. Spanish full-back Jose Enrique started the match as he continued his return to fitness. He played a part in the first goal as his lofted through ball was clinically finished by Alex O’Hanlon.

Liverpool were largely dominant as Jerome Sinclair (eligible to play under his youth team loan) and Sergi Canos tested the Fulham defence frequently.

However, Fulham were a threat on the counter and highly-rated striker Moussa Dembele equalised for the Cottagers. Another swift break saw Adetayo Edun pass the ball under the keeper to make it 2-1 to Fulham.

The second half was a frustrating one for the Reds as they could not find the equaliser despite numerous shots on goal – Cameron Brannagan and returning German striker Samed Yesil going the closest. The match finished 2-1 to Fulham and the young Reds were left to rue their chances.

Later on in the week, the u18s were in action in an away game against Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton took the lead but a Herbie Kane brace saw Liverpool come back to make it 2-1. However, lady luck seemingly smiled on Brighton as an equaliser was followed by a last-minute winner to make it 3-2 to Brighton.

Here’s what Neil Critchley had to say to liverpoolfc.com:

*“**We were dominant in the second half but lacked a ruthless streak because we had some great chances to put the game out of sight, and the lads certainly didn’t deserve to lose. We got punished on the counter-attack and that is something that we need to improve on.**“*

Coming up, the u21s have a match against Leicester City on Monday 13th April; 7:00pm kick off (tonight). Then on Friday 17th April, Liverpool play Tottenham Hotspur; 7:00 pm kick off.  The u18s are in action next Saturday against West Ham United; 11am kick off.
