# Academy Review: Man City

On Saturday 7th of February, Liverpool u21s travelled to the brand new Academy Stadium to play Manchester City.

With no wins in the last two league games, Michael Beale’s side had to return to winning ways if they wanted to move up the table.

The Reds fielded a strong side with the like of Brad Smith, Ryan McLaughlin and Cameron Brannagan getting a run out.

Liverpool took the lead in the first half after Welsh winger Harry Wilson powered home Jerome Sinclair’s cross. However, City did equalise before half time courtesy of Jack Byrne.

The second half saw the introduction of Spaniard Sergi Canos, in place of injured Wilson. City threatened to take the lead several times but two minutes before the end, Canos was upended in the box and penalty was given to Liverpool.

Another substitute, Daniel Trickett-Smith, took the responsibility and coolly slotted in from 12 yards. The match finished 2-1 to Liverpool. Here’s what Michael Beale had to say:

*“**We scored an excellent first goal when Jerome has put a great ball in and Harry has timed his run brilliantly to find the net. We then got the penalty when Sergi was brought down and Daniel has showed great character to score after only just coming on. It is a good result for the Academy because the lads were disappointed to go out of the FA Youth Cup and then lose 2-1 to Manchester United,**”* Beale told Liverpoolfc.com.

The u18s however did not play this weekend as their match against Blackburn Rovers was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Coming up for the U21s next week is home tie against Sunderland on Monday 16th (kick off 19:00) live on LFC TV.

The u18s play a friendly against the George Best Academy on Wednesday 11th and then play Sunderland on Saturday 14th (kick off 13:00) live on LFC TV.
