# Cameron Brannagan set for summer Liverpool exit

Cameron Brannagan was once considered a very highly-rated prospect in the Liverpool academy who could go on to become a first-team regular for many years.

Things haven’t panned out for Cameron as hoped and it appears that he will leave the club on a permanent basis in the summer, according to [James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-live-12606191), with bookies such as [the price per head sportsbook](https://www.pricepayperhead.com/sportsbook-software/) to offer decent lines on the midfielder’s departure.

Having failed to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool this season, the 20-year-old midfielder left to join League One outfit Fleetwood Town on loan in January until the end of the season but he has made just one appearance to date.

Despite breaking into the first-team last season, making nine appearances in all competitions, [Brannagan](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team/player/cameron-brannagan) has fallen down the pecking order and will likely leave in the summer, Pearce notes.

“It’s likely that Brannagan will move on permanently in the summer, I think he’s got loads of talent and will go on to have a decent career but the fact that Klopp overlooked him in the first half of the season was telling. \[Ovie\] Ejaria jumped above him in the pecking order.”

Ejaria has jumped ahead of Brannagan in the pecking order this season and the club has high hopes for Marko Grujic which has made the England U20 international expendable.

While rumours of a permanent exit last month were flying about, an ankle injury nipped them in the bud but he recovered well enough to leave on loan.

“There was talk of a permanent deal for Brannagan in the January window but that went quiet after he suffered ankle ligament damage in December.”

Back in the summer, [Wigan were linked with a move](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/brannagan-staying-put-liverpool-fc-11568991) for the midfielder which would’ve been worth in excess of £1m, but Liverpool turned down the offer and would only entertain loan bids for one of their most sought-after prospects. [January loan bids were enticed](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2016/12/13/cameron-brannagan-set-january-loan/) and Brannagan made the move to Fleetwood.

After signing a new deal in October 2015, [Liverpool were reportedly considering offering him improved terms](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cameron-brannagan-set-new-liverpool-11395036) less than eight months later following an impressive second half of the season, but that never materialised.

With his contract up at the end of next season, it appears Liverpool have put their eggs in other baskets and will be willing to let Brannagan continue his professional career elsewhere.
