# Crystal Palace revive Benteke interest

Christian Benteke could be on his way out of Liverpool by end of the week after Crystal Palace reopened talks to sign the Belgian striker.

Benteke struggled to justify his hefty £32.5 million price tag in his first season at Anfield, netting just 10 goals in 42 appearances, and has been deemed surplus to requirements by Jürgen Klopp, who revealed last week that he expected the 25-year old to leave.

Palace, on the hunt for a striker, reportedly had a £25 million bid rejected last month, with Liverpool eager to recoup as much of his transfer fee as possible, but it is understood that they are now willing to meet the club’s valuation after failing in their pursuit Saido Berahino.

With Palace reportedly able to match his weekly wage of £120,000, personal terms are not expected to prove a stumbling block and, as such, Benteke could complete his move to Selhurst Park before the new Premier League season gets under way at the weekend.

Benteke’s anticipated departure could force Klopp back into the transfer market to find cover for his injury-prone attacking trio of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings, with Charlton starlet Ademola Lookman among those linked.

Klopp has already shown Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe, Martin Skrtel, Brad Smith, Kolo Touré and a host of youngsters the exit door as he revamps his squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
