# Ex-Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates saves teammate’s life during game

Former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates has been widely praised for helping save the life of his teammate Romain Salin.

Coates and Salin were part of the Sporting team who were playing against Portimonense on Sunday afternoon, a game which they went on to lose 4-2.

However, the main talking point from the game was the scary incident where Salin was knocked out after colliding with his goalpost as he tried to prevent Shoya Nakajima from scoring for the home side.

Coates noticed that his goalkeeper had been knocked unconscious whilst on his back and quickly put his fingers inside his mouth to prevent his team-mate from swallowing his tongue.

Coates then immediately signalled to the sideline to get the attention of the medical staff, who quickly came to the aid of the goalkeeper.

They treated him on the pitch before eventually taking him off for further examination.
