# Liverpool eager to reach summer deal for Kostas Manolas

Liverpool’s defence has left a lot to be desired at times this season – with last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City a perfect illustration of just how inept the Reds’ back four can be.

To rectify this, Jurgen Klopp has begun identifying possible summer recruits with the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-keen-kostas-manolas-transfer-10051679) stating that he’s keen on signing Roma star Kostas Manolas in the summer, but they face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Klopp sent a scout to Rome last week to watch the Greek centre-back in action during Roma’s Europa League clash with Lyon as he prepares a summer bid.

The 25-year-old joined the Serie A club in August 2014 and has developed into one of the leading defenders in the division over the last three seasons.

Arsenal had a £35m offer rejected for him last summer with the hold up at the time being Roma would like a larger fee seeing as they owe 50% of any future sell-on fee to his former club, Olympiakos.

The clause has now expired meaning he’s become a much more affordable option for Europe’s top clubs.

With only two years left on his £25,000-a-week contract, the financial allure of the Premier League may be too good to turn down.
