# Liverpool ready to wait for Keita as no fresh bid imminent

Liverpool are ready to put their chase of Naby Keita on hold this summer and wait until the £48m release clause in his contract becomes active next year as their club record bids of £57m and £66m were both rejected, according to [The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/liverpool-set-to-put-naby-keita-pursuit-on-hold-until-next-summer-shf7m27fb).

Keita has been Jurgen Klopp’s main transfer target throughout the summer and the player himself has been keen on a move to Anfield by telling his club RB Leipzig that he wishes to move.

However, the German club are adamant that they will not sell the Guinean no matter what price is offered by the Premier League club.

Reports emerged last week that Leipzig had finally given in and were ready to open negotiations with Liverpool who then submitted a £66m bid, which was immediately rejected.

And the Merseyside club are not ready to go higher than that offer so will wait until next summer where Keita will be available for £48m and Leipzig will be powerless to block the transfer.

The German club may be forced to sell the midfielder this summer if Liverpool choose to wait because they will be losing out on about £20m.

Liverpool are now looking at other midfield targets with nobody strongly linked yet. The Reds may be choosing this stance to worry Leipzig and get them to lower the price of Keita this summer.

But the German club are pushing hard to get Keita to sign a new deal at the club which will wipe out his £48m release clause next summer.
