Preview: Newcastle vs. Liverpool

Liverpool travel to Newcastle in a tough Barclays Premier League away clash on Saturday. The last time Liverpool visited St James’, they came away with a huge 6-0 victory, leaving the whole stadium near to empty for the last 10 minutes as Newcastle continued to fight off relegation. This time it’s different as Newcastle have had a slight revival, partly due to Loic Remy, but still the club finds itself in a precarious position. That’s mainly because of owner Mike Ashley not being a fan favourite but also, with the appointment of Joe Kinnear, there’s an important figure not helping. One signing at the Toon – which wasn’t even a permanent deal – hasn’t gone down well with the Geordie faithful considering Joe Kinnear promised “he could open the door to anyone”.

Now, the Reds have many dangers that can exploit Newcastle’s weaknesses. Daniel Sturridge on top form for Liverpool will be one who can hurt The Magpies at the back, along with Suarez. ‘SAS’ will be raring to go and will undoubtedly threaten Newcastle’s sketchy defence. Colocinni is our best defender by far but sadly, from Newcastle’s point of view, he’s out due to injury. Mike Williamson will almost certainly fill in which means weakening the defence even further. Yanga M’Biwa is going to have to step up to the mark and make sure he delivers a solid performance at the back. Newcastle are going to have to keep it tight all over to make sure Liverpool cannot get in behind and punish them. The Reds are looking to climb back to the top of the table above the Gunners. LFC are on 16 points joint top with Arsenal who are also on 16 points.

Sturridge and Suarez are by far the most dangerous players to Newcastle but there are others that can damage them as well. Steven Gerrard will be on a high after captaining, scoring and securing World Cup football for England in midweek. Simon Mignolet will surely be his usual, consistent self attempting to keep Newcastle out, too.

Newcastle have some dangers though, as I stated earlier in the article. Loic Remy can score a couple whilst he’s on form. Hatem Ben Arfa is always a threat too, it just depends on which Ben Arfa turns up.

For my score prediction, I’d love to be a loyal Newcastle fan and say we’ll win but honestly don’t think we’ll get anything from the game. I’m going to say 0-2, Liverpool win.

1. Sturridge to score anytime – Daniel Sturridge is on top class form so far this season and it’s hard to oppose another goal. To follow Luke and have a bet, click here

2. Yanga M’Biwa to get booked – With Suarez jinking about and Sturridge there as well, the Frenchman could look suspect at the back. To follow Luke and have a bet, click here

3. Liverpool to be winning at HT – Liverpool have started the season excellently, especially during the first half of games. It’d be no surprise if they go in ahead at the break. To follow Luke and have a bet, click here

4. Newcastle Win – Newcastle can nick a win here if they perform solidly. Defence and attack need to be awake if this is to happen. To follow Luke and have a bet, click here

5. Loic Remy to score anytime – Loic Remy is Newcastle’s top goalscorer this season. With Cisse off form, Loic will almost definitely be Newcastle’s biggest goal threat. To follow Luke and have a bet, click here
