# Four Findings: Burton Albion 0-5 Liverpool

Finding themselves in a bit of a familiar fix, Liverpool needed to bounce back from an underwhelming performance against a lower table team after having dispatched a perennial power

Heading to play hosts Burton Albion, the Reds not only needed to win but do so convincingly to rinse away the sour taste of the Turf Moor defeat. Liverpool answered the call and cruised to a 5-0 EFL Cup victory.

This was a match Liverpool were always supposed to win but many would say the same about Saturday’s blip at Burnley. Dominating possession from the opening whistle, this Liverpool side was strong and included some necessary changes to push both the purpose and pace of play with incisiveness.

The return of Sadio Mane was the most remarkable difference but so was the inclusion of Emre Can. Those two additions allowed Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson to drop deeper and push forward accordingly, playing more to each one’s strengths. Both benefitted.

Adding Joel Matip, in his debut, at the back and Divock Origi up front completed moves that emphasized greater ruggedness. The starters delivered three goals before Jurgen Klopp made a change.

The weekend’s trip to White Hart Lane will provide yet another test to see if Liverpool can retain the rhythm they so clearly reacquired in this cup tie and carry it into league play.

They will certainly take on Tottenham with greater confidence on the heels of a decisive win rather than a faltering loss.

Here are four findings from the match.
