# Four Findings: Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland

In another challenge that pitted Liverpool against a team uninterested in playing football, the Reds required patience to breakdown Sunderland 2-0 at Anfield.

David Moyes made it quite clear that his side intended on parking the bus, hoping to stave off the slaughter. Alas, he was sent on his way without a win once again.

In contrast to some of the beatings Liverpool have handed out at home, this match proved to be a funhouse version of last week’s match at Southampton.

Sunderland made almost no attempt to attack at all, barring a brief spell in the second half.

The first half saw Liverpool move the ball around the Black Cats’ half of the field for a whole 15 minutes before the visitors even were able to string more than two passes together. Yet, the Reds were unable to make their dominance count.

Things took an even darker turn as Philippe Coutinho crumpled in the box under a challenge from Didier Ndong. The Brazilian required a stretcher to leave the field and the agony he experienced left Anfield a-daze.

With injuries eliminating Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge as attacking substitutes, Divock Origi replaced the little magician, looking for an opportunity to jump start his season. It would require a depth of perseverance from both the striker and his teammates.

Tension mounted as Liverpool struggled to play at a tempo that could unlock an entire team playing behind the ball with little interest in breaking forward.

Then, just as the frustration seemed to be getting the best of supporters in the second half, Jurgen Klopp directed his attention toward the crowd. The manager excoriated the anxiety and negativity in the ground. The home supporters responded and minutes later so did the substitute striker.

Another clean sheet, accompanied with a win, and a cameo debut for teenager Ben Woodburn made for a happy end to grinding game.

Here are four findings from the match:
