Player Ratings: Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

After Manchester United closed the gap on the top four with a win at Burnley and both Arsenal and Manchester City facing off in the FA Cup, Liverpool entered today’s game with Crystal Palace knowing they couldn’t afford a defeat.

Things started brightly as Philippe Coutinho gave the Reds the lead with a delightful 25-yard free-kick which put Jurgen Klopp’s side into the ascendancy.

Liverpool were comfortable for most of the first half but the Eagles levelled before half-time when former Red, Christian Benteke put away a Yohan Cabaye cross.

Klopp’s men were unable to break down Sam Allardyce’s side who caught them with a sucker-punch from a second-half corner where Benteke was unmarked in the six-yard box and headed home to hand Palace all three points.

Benteke, who left Liverpool for Palace last summer, now has five goals in three games at Anfield for visiting sides, as many as he managed in 20 home appearances for the Reds.

Here are our player ratings from the game.
