# Alan Hutton claims Liverpool are ‘sniffing about’ Nathan Patterson

Former Premier League defender Alan Hutton has claimed [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/27/virals-liverpool-handed-tough-uefa-champions-league-group/) are showing an interest in the Rangers full-back [Nathan Patterson](https://readeverton.com/2021/08/23/everton-nathan-patterson-bid-rangers/).

This comes following a [reported](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-rangers-nathan-patterson-transfer-24812516) offer from cross-park rivals Everton was dismissed by the Old Firm giants.

Liverpool legend and ‘Gers manager Steven Gerrard [described](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-transfer-rangers-nathan-patterson-21375304) the £5million offer for the 19-year-old as a ‘joke’.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/hutton-patterson-giving-gerrard-headache-after-what-ive-heard-about-possible-rangers-exit/), Hutton claimed that the Reds could also be monitoring the teenage sensation.

> We’re looking at a guy with the potential to be very good. To be at Rangers for a number of years, to be a Scotland international for a number of years. We’re looking at potential, we’ve seen glimpses of him, I would like to see more. I think now where we’re getting to a stage where there’s interest in him from down south, from big clubs. I have heard Liverpool are now sniffing about him as well.

[Capped twice by Scotland](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-patterson/nationalmannschaft/spieler/424015/verein_id/3380) at senior level, Patterson has found regular first-team opportunities difficult to come by as the club captain stands.

Described as [‘fantastic’](https://www.rangers.co.uk/tv#/) by academy boss at Ibrox, Craig Mulholland, the starlet [played 90 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-patterson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/424015/plus/0/saison/2021/wettbewerb/ELQ/verein/124) as Gerrard’s side qualified for the Europa League group stages past Alashkert Yerevan.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £1.17million and under contract until 2024 in Scotland ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-patterson/marktwertverlauf/spieler/424015)), signing Patterson shouldn’t cost much above the initial rejected offer from Everton.

However, despite [early reports](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-transfer-news-neco-williams/LV56Z3LgIb5p) suggesting Neco Williams would be looking to move on this summer, the 20-year-old Welsh international remains at Anfield as the window enters the final few days.

As an understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Williams has proved to be [adequate cover](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neco-williams/leistungsdaten/spieler/503680) on a number of occasions.

For this reason, it’s unlikely Liverpool make a late swoop for Patterson, although the move could be revisited next summer following a [further season](https://www.rangers.co.uk/Article/another-step-in-pattersons-development/1OvgLgmGvwU54curFoKXJ4) of development.
