# Alan Kennedy: Reds should sign Clyne

Ex-Liverpool full-back Alan Kennedy has urged his former club to sign Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne this summer.

There has been a lot of talk about Clyne making a move to Merseyside, and Kennedy thinks he’s a player worth pursuing.

Speaking to the *Liverpool Echo*, the two-time European Cup winning Red said:

*“Clyne is very good, we all saw how good he was when Southampton came to Anfield last season, and he scored their goal. He has got something about him everybody likes and he is something we need.”*

Liverpool have reportedly had a £10m bid for the England right back rejected by Southampton, but all expectations are that they’ll return with another offer, and Kennedy thinks that would be a wise move, considering Liverpool’s lack of depth at the right-back position:

*“If we don’t think \[Javier\] Manquillo is going to do it at the club and we have lost Glen Johnson, the logical thing is to go out and buy the next best thing and I think that is Nathaniel Clyne.”*

It is thought that Liverpool will have to pay around £15m if they want to secure a deal for Clyne.
