# Alex McCarthy open to a move to Anfield

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has been overtaken in the pecking order at St. Mary’s by Angus Gunn and this has left him considering his future.

[Reports on the Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool/southampton-alex-mccarthy-liverpool-move-simon-mignolet-granted-exit-wish-a4170061.html) suggest that McCarthy is finally open to a move to Anfield after falling out of favour at Southampton.

Similarly, reports suggest that Liverpool are interested in signing a back-up goalkeeper as they prepare to let Simon Mignolet leave the club this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been after McCarthy since he made a move to Crystal Palace in 2016 but McCarthy was never ready for the move to Anfield. Now, however, he is considering a change to one of the top teams in England.

Although it’s not a definite option, McCarthy has expressed his interest and it comes at a perfect time for Klopp following Mignolet’s exit.

There are however other teams believed to be interested in the 30-year-old, according to the report.
