# Jurgen Klopp Upbeat Over ‘Promising’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Return

[Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/03/klopp-wants-nuno-mendes-at-liverpool/) has delivered a positive update over the return to firs -team action of [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/12/04/alexander-arnold-and-keita-could-be-back-for-wolves-clash-klopp-confirms/) midfielder [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/11/28/klopp-confirms-thiago-and-oxlade-chamberlain-will-miss-liverpools-next-two-games/), who has been missing since pre-season.

The former Arsenal man was forced to [leave the Reds’ pre-season training camp](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8651409/Liverpool-confirm-Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain-set-miss-rest-clubs-pre-season-programme.html) early when he damaged knee ligaments – a recurring problem for the [explosive English midfielder](https://footballbh.net/2019/06/14/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-liverpool-player-tactical-analysis-statistics/).

However, speaking in his pre-match [press conference](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/live-liverpool-klopp-press-conference-19397789) ahead of the visit of Wolves on Sunday night, Klopp said: ”Ox looks really promising, ball work but we develop that in days and weeks.”

The 27-year-old recovered from a [serious knee problem](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jul/18/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-out-for-season-knee-injury-liverpool) to have a major impact on Liverpool’s successful 2019/20 campaign – making [43 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424/plus/0?saison=2019) and scoring eight goals – and his influence in undoubtedly a miss from the Anfield squad.

Despite the absence of Oxlade-Chamberlain for the season so far – as well as a [host of other injury and illness problems](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php) – Klopp’s side are [joint-top on points at the Premier League summit](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and have [guaranteed top spot in their Champions League group](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/standings/).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Although Oxlade-Chamberlain may not be an obvious starter in the champions’ [first-choice midfield](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-premier-league/story/4066509/liverpools-weird-midfield-has-been-key-to-their-remarkable-premier-league-season), he certainly is part of the conversation when fully fit and at the peak of his powers.

His direct running style and [long-range shooting](https://www.90min.com/in/posts/6023280-oxlade-chamberlain-reveals-he-s-been-working-on-long-range-shots-after-stunner-in-city-humbling) offers an X-factor into an otherwise workmanlike midfield.

Given the woeful time Klopp has [endured with injuries](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/liverpool-injury-crisis-jurgen-klopp-23085139) in recent weeks, this is some overdue positive news. Albeit potentially the turn of the year before we see Oxlade-Chamberlain involved again, his return will be a blessing for the German.
