# Andy Robertson rated as the best left-back since Ashley Cole

Andy Robertson is the best left-back the Premier League has seen since Ashley Cole, according to Garth Crooks.

The Scot was magnificent as Liverpool saw off Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday, returning to the top of the Premier League momentarily.

It was just the latest star showing from the left-back, whose influence both on and off the pitch at Anfield is enormous.

Robertson has unquestionably been one of Jurgen Klopp’s best signings as Liverpool manager, with the 24-year-old playing at a world-class level currently.

Somebody who is a huge admirer of the Scotland captain is Crooks, who selected him in his Team of the Week on *[BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47191863)*.

He believes there hasn’t been a stronger left-back since Cole – a huge compliment to the Liverpool man:

> I just love watching this kid play. Apart from anything else, he has nerves of steel.

> The ball he played for for Georginio Wijnaldum to score was just wonderful and the side-foot volley when Sadio Mane should have scored was just sensational.

> There is nothing more frustrating for a striker than a full-back who offers nothing going forward and I’ve played with enough to know.

> Robertson is a striker’s dream and the best I’ve seen since Ashley Cole.

Robertson joined the Reds for just £8million from Hull City back in 2017, which now looks a bargain.

He would get into most teams in Europe and will be one of Liverpool’s most important players in the title run-in.
