# Arteta provides an update on Liverpool-linked Saka’s future

Mikel Arteta has provided an update of the future of Bukayo Saka, hinting that a new contract at Arsenal could be imminent.

Saka has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/13/liverpool-and-man-united-linked-with-move-for-arsenal-youngster-saka/) with moves to btoh Liverpool and Manchester United in recent days as he only has 18 months remaining on his current deal.

While the Gunners are keen to tie him down to a new contract, there is no guarantee that he will commit his future to the club.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, with quotes provided by *[football.london](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/bukayo-saka-mikel-arteta-contract-17749919)*, Arteta praised the performances of his young players, suggesting that their form may earn them improved deals:

> I’m really happy with how they (the young players) are developing.

> Part of their development is to improve their contract and tie them to the club but I have to follow a natural process.

> We have Raul (Sanllehi), we have Edu (Gaspar), Vinai (Venkatesham) and Huss (Fahey) who are in charge of that and I’m sure we will do the right thing when players deserve improved contracts.

I think Saka would be a good addition for Liverpool, considering he can play at both left-back and on the left wing.

The 18-year-old has chipped in with [three goals and five assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/367185/Show/Bukayo-Saka) this season, highlighting how he could excel for the Reds going forward.

Liverpool are in need of a backup to Andy Robertson and could consider bringing in another left-back who can play as and when the Scot needs a rest or is unavailable.

James Milner has been an excellent option in that respect, but he is 34 now and is not a natural left-back.

If Liverpool don’t manager to get Saka, bringing in a similarly talented young left-back this summer would make perfect sense.
