# Barcelona aim to sign Wijnaldum as part of January triple swoop

Barcelona are eyeing up bringing in Gini Wijnaldum as part of a triple swoop in January, according to *[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/)*, via the *[Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8833933/Barcelona-eyeing-moves-Memphis-Depay-Georginio-Wijnaldum-Eric-Garcia-January.html)*.

The Dutchman was regularly [linked](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/02/liverpool-braced-for-barcelona-bid-for-georginio-wijnaldum) with the Catalan giants during the summer, but he ended up remaining at Liverpool.

Ronald Koeman has [confirmed](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/10/12/has-koeman-hinted-at-barcelona-moving-for-wijnaldum-in-january/) that he tried to sign Wijnaldum and could attempt to again, adding possible truth to this latest update.

Barca are reportedly aiming to sign the 29-year-old in January, along with Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay.

I think Liverpool need to ignore any interest in Wijnaldum before the summer, at which point he will likely leave.

He is in the [final year of his contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/profil/spieler/49499) at Anfield, and given his age, an extension is not expected.

While there may be the lure of earning a fee for Wijnaldum in January, he remains an integral player in 2020/21 and selling him could be detrimental halfway through the season.

I think the Netherlands international’s brilliance is only truly appreciated when he isn’t playing, such is the subtle nature of the job he does.

He has been a model of consistency over the past four years, too, and [192 appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1310) in that time suggests he has always been considered vital by Jurgen Klopp.
