# Benteke won’t submit transfer request

One of Liverpool’s main attacking targets, Christian Benteke, will not be handing in a transfer request in a bid to force a move away from Villa Park, according to a report in the *Liverpool Echo*.

The Reds’ interest in the player has been well documented and there were even reports of an opening bid being prepared for this week.

Tim Sherwood said last week that Benteke has a buyout clause of £32.5m and the *Liverpool Echo* state that Liverpool are ready to make a £20 million bid for him.

It has also been noted that Benteke’s representatives will be meeting with Aston Villa in the coming days to try and reach a conclusion.

It is no secret that Villa will look to keep the Belgian by offering him a new, improved contract. However, should Benteke opt against signing the contract, Liverpool are likely to step up their chase for him.

Earlier this week, Benteke’s fellow Belgian international Simon Mignolet confirmed that he’ll be having a word with the striker about a potential move to Anfield.

*“I’m going to talk with Benteke about the Liverpool rumour,”* said the Liverpool ‘keeper, as quoted in the *Liverpool Echo.*

*“It would be fine to have three Belgians* (Divock Origi being the third) *at the club.”*
