# Bilic condemns internet trolls who sent death threats to Lovren

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has leapt to the defence of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren after a string of underwhelming performances.

The Croatian has been criticised by many after his performance against Tottenham at Wembley, as well as a number of high-profile errors this season.

As reported by [ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/liverpool/story/3257526/west-ham-boss-slaven-bilic-defends-liverpools-dejan-lovren-amid-rough-patch), Bilic believes there is no place in football for ‘internet trolls’. Speaking after news that Lovren had received online death threats, his fellow countryman commended the claims.

> Fortunately that is a minority of people. Maybe I’m wrong and maybe I’m naive but I think even those people who did it didn’t mean it seriously.

> They weren’t joking – it’s a bad, bad way of expressing that they’re not happy with the way he played. But that shouldn’t be there. Those people should be ashamed of themselves, big time.

Lovren is a player that Bilic knows all too well, it was the current West Ham boss that handed him his international debut during his time in charge of Croatia.

Liverpool supporters have backed the defender and even managed to vote him as the club’s Player of the Month in a bid to lift his spirits.
