# Bob Paisley’s legacy commemorated with new statue at Anfield

An eight-feet tall bronze statue of Bob Paisley was unveiled at Anfield on Thursday, celebrating the life and legacy of Liverpool’s most successful manager.

In a press release sent to Read Liverpool from Liverpool Football Club, it was confirmed that the statue has been commissioned and donated by Standard Chartered, the club’s Main Sponsor, as they celebrate 10 years with the Reds.

The sculpture shows Paisley and former captain Emlyn Hughes together, with the latter being carried on his manager’s shoulders.

It is located in Paisley Square at Anfield and will be on show on Saturday when Liverpool host Southampton in the Premier League, allowing supporters to have their photo taken with it.

Members of Paisley’s family and Hughes’ daughter, Emma Lynn Hughes, were present at the unveiling, as were pupils from Four Oaks Primary School in Anfield, who did a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Also present was Liverpool CEO Peter Moore, who spoke about Paisley’s impact at Anfield:

> Bob Paisley is arguably one of the most successful English football managers of all time and led his team to greatness time and time again.

> His contribution and commitment to Liverpool FC plays a huge part in the tremendous history of this football club, so it felt like a fitting tribute to his legacy to unveil our statue on Paisley Square at Anfield.

Paisley enjoyed huge success at Anfield during his nine-year stint as manager between 1974 and 1983.

He won three European Cups, in 1977, 1978 and 1981, as well as six First Division titles and three League Cups.
