# Burnley likely to beat Liverpool to the signing of Steels

Burnley look set to beat Liverpool and several other Premier League clubs to the signing of York City youngster Vinnie Steels, according to a report from [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/burnley-leading-liverpool-spurs-in-race-for-non-league-wonderkid).

The Reds are reportedly among a number of clubs keen to snap up the young winger, who made his senior debut for non-league outfit York earlier on this year.

Steels, 16, has been watched by a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, it seems, with Burnley said to be leading the race for his signature.

York have granted the Clarets permission to negotiate a move with Steels, with the player understood to be keen on a move to Turf Moor this summer.

However, they are not the only club looking to recruit the impressive young winger, with TEAMtalk listing the likes of Liverpool, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and several others as potential suitors.

York’s sporting director Dave Penney has been discussing the situation of Steels, as he closes in on an exit from the club:

> This is a great opportunity for Vinnie to move to a Premier League club and we wish him all the best. Burnley have complied with all the rules and gave seven days’ notice, last week, of their intentions to approach the player.

> Both Vinnie and his agent will now be free to talk to Burnley’s representatives on Wednesday.

Steels appears to be a player with big potential, but it seems Burnley will win the race for his highly-sought after signature.
