# Charlie Nicholas urges swoop for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher

Former Scotland striker Charlie Nicholas has urged Celtic to move for young [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/30/freddie-ljungberg-lauds-liverpool-target-alexander-isak/) goalkeeper [Caoimhin Kelleher](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/10/virals-liverpool-unwilling-to-let-caoimhin-kelleher-leave-on-loan/) this summer.

This comes after the 22-year-old Irishman recently [signed a new contract](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/436861-caoimhin-kelleher-signs-new-long-term-liverpool-contract) with the Reds following an impressive breakout campaign in 2020/21.

Kelleher made [five first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caoimhin-kelleher/leistungsdaten/spieler/340918) in the absence of regular number one Alisson Becker – seemingly ousting Adrian as the main understudy to the Brazilian in the process.

Nicholas has told the [Scottish Daily Express (29/06, p57)](https://www.express.co.uk/football/teams/99/celtic), that the Hoops should take a serious look at the stopper.

> Caoimhin Kelleher has already played in the Liverpool first team, he is another one \[that I would like to see Celtic sign\]. My mate Phil Thompson rates him highly and he’s another who wouldn’t be overly expensive.

A recent [debutant](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caoimhin-kelleher/nationalmannschaft/spieler/340918/verein_id/3509) for the Republic of Ireland, the ‘keeper has enjoyed a rise to prominence in the last 12 months and according to [James Pearce](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1404449018323869696) has established himself as the recognised backup at Anfield.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

It seems as though Nicholas is suggesting a permanent deal for the [£2.25million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/caoimhin-kelleher/marktwertverlauf/spieler/340918) man, surely [not something](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1402612084551081986?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1402612084551081986%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Freadliverpoolfc.com%2F2021%2F06%2F10%2Fvirals-liverpool-unwilling-to-let-caoimhin-kelleher-leave-on-loan%2F) the Reds would entertain.

Having [already shown](https://www.sofascore.com/player/caoimhin-kelleher/827362) his ability, the club will have high hopes Kelleher has a role to play in the upcoming season and thereafter.

Whilst a loan move would perhaps be best for the starlet’s development, Jurgen Klopp would be reticent to allow the [most reliable backup](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/418616-jurgen-klopp-on-caoimhin-kelleher-adrian-and-no-2-position) to leave.
